Workshop

Skin is the largest sensory organ of the human body, as well as its protector. To think skin would be impossible without thinking of touch – the first sense which is developed in the human embryo. In order to survive, the newborn mammal species are licked by their animal mothers. Contractions of the uterus during a birth-giving already produce stimulation of the human baby’s skin too, that is important for survival – as in every mammal. Touch, which is often falsely narrowed down only to sexual interaction, is underestimated in the society and often seen as non-normative. The engendering of the body, dissolution of the sexed, contextualised self, happens through the touch. In turn, this triggers processes of unbecoming, undoing, deconstructing of the identities too. Bodies are a potentiality of a physical incorporation of qualities instead of being static sexed entities.

During the workshop we will explore together the potentiality of the body as a receptor and a sensor to receive and give. We will focus on our senses, awareness and presence in order to rewire connections to the skin organ. During this somatic research we will pursue the process of engendering our bodies towards possibilities of forms, which are at the level of qualities rather than identities.

The workshop addresses everybody interested in movement research, exploration of their senses and re-sensing their identities. Everyone with or without movement experience is welcome.
